Filming and Editing

Filming:
We used a script as guidance but allowed our actors to improvise if need be. We have now finished filming in Epping Forest. We filmed our whole opening sequence over 3 days. On the first day we went out with the aim to get a lot our filming complete, therefore only leaving us a couple of days to finish the scenes of where our characters would be covered in blood. Hovever, it didn't work how we anticipated and we left it quite late and it got dark very quickly. This then left us with limited visibility on the camera, and we couldn't see what we were filming at times, so we called it a day and went back a few days later.

We had to make sure our characters were looking exactly the same as before so the film would look as realistic as possible.The light difference between the three days was obvious so we decided we would get the filming finished and play around with tones on the macs later on in the editing process. The second and the third days of filming went well and we followed our storyboard as well as adding in some shots we thought would work well with the film. We got the whole product finished to the point where we were happy.

Editing:

We imported all our filming onto the Macs and put it into a sequence similar to our storyboard. We deleted the many unusable scenes, and began changing the tones of the lighter scenes to darker. This was harder than we thought but we got it to a point were the film looked like it flowed together and the light contrast wasn't obvious. When changing the contrast of the clips we encountered a bigger problem though. We realised on one of our clips that someones legs was in the frame and it disrupted the whole mis-en-scene. We tried to cut the clip down and cut parts out, as there was no way we could film it again as the clothes holly was wearing by the end were completely ruined. In the end we had no choice but to add a letter box affect to the clip, which just simply gave the illusion that the film was filmed through a letter box, therefore cutting out the legs. To make the film more authentic and realistic we added the letterbox affect to all the scenes from the killers point of view which added to the theme of him wearing a mask so it didn't ruin the film at all and we managed to over come the problem.

We added the music of Imovie and added different sound effects to parts of the sequence that needed them, for example thunder and heavy breathing, which are common codes and conventions of the horror genre. The thing we found hard about the sound fx and music was making sure that it was un-copy right, but we managed to find some in the end that suited it. We found the Apple Macs were quite temperamental and they changed our titles around many times which disrupted our work, and they also commonly crashed and closed without saving. Therfore we learned to save our work reguarly throughout the editing process. Also, we all had a go of editing and gained experience by doing so.
